How do you ship large items when it comes to heavyweight machinery, elephant-sized piece of artwork, to a motorcycle, or a car? These are just some examples of heavy-large items that can be shipped. There are many different types of items that can be shipped.
How to Ship Large Items
Industrial Crating Pack & Services have crated many pieces of large machinery. We have it down pat on making the crates inhouse and then bring the broken-down crate to the customer and crate the item onsite with the proper tools. With the walls sides and top already built it cuts the build time down to a couple hours instead of 5+ hours.
When you ship large items, you need to first place them on the base of the crate. Once you have the item centered on the base, you will need to do one of the most important steps. Block and brace the item down to the base. Blocking the item down means that you make sure the item does not move when it is in transit. You use pieces of wood and nail it in place. After being nailed in place the item is then banded down to the base. It will be over the item and under the base. We use different types of strapping but the most common is the metal strapping.
There are many ways to ship large items.
When we ship large items, we want to make sure items are protected. Corners, protruding and or different shaped things. The odd shaped area can be protected with foam, box support, to just a cover to protect it so it will not rub. Many ideas are out there. We will need to look at the large item for shipping to see the bast way to crate it.
There are some large items that will need to be shipped overseas. When shipping large items that have any type of metal or items that can rust you will want to use a vapor barrier. Vapor barrier is a large customized bag that is placed around the item being shipped and then all the air is taken out of the bag. The bag looks like shrink wrap and shrinks to the large item shape. Using this protects it from getting any moisture onto the item being shipped overseas.
Large items can be shipped all over the world.
